POETRY IN MOTION - A SUMMER CONCERT

Poetry in Motion - A Summer Concert was a creative dance performance made together with students from Ardfert National School with support from their teacher Marie O'Connell and thanks to an Arts Act Grant from Kerry County Council.

The piece looked at the connection between poetry and dance and the idea of phrasing, both when dancing and when reciting and/or writing a poem. It was a promenade piece and took place in the stunning Ardfert Cathedral in June 2019.

THE EASTER RISING DANCE & SCHOOL PROJECT

In 2015-2016 Maria was part of The Easter Rising Dance and School Project, a Teacher/Artist Partnership funded by Kerry County Council and Tralee Education Centre. The project involved Teacher Marie O'Connell and 3rd class from Ardfert National School and culminated in a piece entitled 'Children of 1916', looking at the children at the time of The Rising and embodying the emotions connected.

MOVEMENT ON CANVAS

Working with students from Ardfert National School, Maria explored using colours in motion creating a movement canvas inspired by her work with visual artist Regina Carbayo. The work was made possible through the Dancer in Residence Scheme funded by the Arts Council & Kerry County Council supported by An Lab.

Movement on Canvas was performed at the entrance of Tralee Tourist Office as part of Cruinniú na Nóg 2018.
