A SOLO DANCE FESTIVAL IN THE HEART OF SWEDEN

Initially inspired by the essay Everyone is Going Solo Together by writer Jeffrey Gormly and Maria Svensson’s own solo practice after working with choreographer Deborah Hay, Going Solo Together is a unique solo dance festival which takes place in Örebro, Sweden with the aim to bring dance artists and likeminded together. The festival started in 2014 and has since taken place 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020 and most recently 2022. In 2017 the bilingual version of the festival took place in Dingle, Ireland together with co-director Nick Bryson of Legitimate Bodies Dance Company. In 2022 the festival hosted participating artists such as Ayesha Mailey, Helene Steen, Ida Görsch, Toby Gunn and Kazue Ikeda with video screenings by Colin Norrby, brooke smiley and students from Kävesta Folkhögskola. The festival also included three workshops aimed at families, people aged 50+ and professionals.

In 2020, due to the pandemic, the festival took place online 4-6th of December with prerecorded performances by Mohlavyr & Toby Gunn, Kazue Ikeda, My Prim, Jessica Andrenacci, students from Kävesta Folkhögskola, Emmalena Fredriksson and Tendai Makurumbandi. The festival also saw the screening of the film A Walk In My Shoes by Zoë Uí Fhaoláin Green & Camphill Community, Dingle as well as workshops by Ellinor Ljungkvist and Emmalena Fredriksson. |

Going Solo Together 2020 was made possible thanks to Dans i Örebro Län, Kulturnämnden Örebro Kommun, Teater Martin Mutter & TAOS (The Art of Sweden).
In 2018 the festival took place live at Teater Martin Mutter in Örebro with performances by Rosalind Crisp (AU), Xixan Xoxa (SVN), Cornelia Savva, Mohlavyr & Toby Gunn, Kazue Ikeda, Rebecka Stillman, Ellinor Ljungkvist, Jessica Andrenacci, Ylva Henrikson and students from Kävesta Folkhögskola.

aonarach le chéile / going solo together 2017
Co-directed together with Nick Bryson of Legitimate Bodies Dance Company, a bilingual version of the festival premiered 2017 in Dingle, Ireland. Aonarach Le Chéile / Going Solo Together included local, national and international artists such as Fearghus Ó Conchúir, Ríonach Ní Néill, Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín, Susie Lamb, Jeffrey Gormly, Jeff Wallace (USA), Stephanie Miracle (USA), Mary Wycherley, Claire Keating, Mark Carberry, Cathy O'Kennedy, Anne O´Donnell and Dingle's Camphill Community directed by Zoë Uí Fhaoláin, amongst others.
